Testing encourages Lewis heading to Houston

BAYTOWN, Texas – NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Brandon Lewis and his family’s TigerFlow Systems will be looking to bounce back during this weekend’s O’Reilly Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park. After struggling two weeks ago in Gainesville, Fla., the team carded a 5.42 in testing last weekend.

Lewis, 23, from Broken Arrow, Okla., realizes these struggles are not that uncommon when learning a new car and combination.

“We had a good test session in Tulsa last weekend,” said Lewis. “We ran a 5.42 and a 5.50. It was nothing astronomical, but at least we made a couple of respectable runs. In Gainesville, we had been making small changes hoping the car would come around. We finally took some big steps in the direction we thought we needed to go, which the car seemed to like.

“After smoking the tires on both of our runs in Gainesville, it gives us confidence going into Houston knowing we have a tune-up that will get down the track,” added Lewis. “I have all the faith in the world in Joe Monden [Crew Chief]. TigerFlow is going to have some guests on hand this weekend, so hopefully we can make a strong showing for them and Morrison Construction, Lucas Oil, Unifirst and A-1 Auto Body.”
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session Saturday morning. Eliminations begin Saturday afternoon with round one and conclude on Sunday with final eliminations.
