Brad/AJ both make Fuel and Fatheads in stages.

BAE Fuel heads go from stages one to six now I believe, stages 1 and 2 are a little better suited for alcohol because on the three and later models they added .100" to the deck of the head making the combustion chambers bigger thus requiring a heavier piston to get the same compression. Fuel heads can be run on alky but require more timing because the chambers are 176-196 ish cc vs the fatheads 96-101cc chambers. The valve sizing went 2.375" intake on stg 1, 2.40 on stg 2 and kept going up which also required the larger chambers along with raising the runners.

The fatheads started with a 3 which is an odd duck by today's fathead design standards and takes some different parts. The 4's are the same as the 5's but with a larger exhaust port and had a 2.425",1.95" valve combo. The 5's came in a small valve pro mod version also that had a 2.40", 1.90" valve combo to be legal for pro mod. The 6's are designed to be pro mod legal and the exhaust port shape changed, these flow a little better on the exh than the large valved 5's and about the same on the intake. 7's were also a pro mod head if I recall but they did have a 7X which had larger valves, 8's were for the top alcohol classes and then they made an 8X with bigger valves. The 9's were odd and had a pent roof intake port and take a different intake from what I am told. The current TA1 and TA1X heads are the latest itteration and have even larger valves up to 2.5" intake I believe.

NRE makes there versions of the fathead which are the X-1, Blackhawk, and S600 head along similar lines but the S600's have a 2.55" intake valve. MBE also makes a Pro mod Legal and outlaw version. Total Flow has a version of the large valve BAE 5's which showed a little better on the flow bench and now make a newer version that falls between an 8 and 8X.

Walt Austin racing made a version of the fatheads a long time ago and may have even been the first but these are old and hard to find now days. Veney has made a fuel head and his alcohol head which departs from the current fatheads and is a unique design featuring very large valves, 2.60/2.10" in some cases even larger.

Dart also made fuel heads a while back but these are fairly rare today.

AJPE's version of the fatheads are called muscle head but I do not know how many stages, at least 2.

    Hope that helps some,
    Trevor Sherwood

Don't the TA1 and X's have a different exhaust flange angle than earlier heads.
Also I heard that a top running dragster team took some X's off and went back to the 8's

Not sure on that, it's very possible as that is the new trend with the NRE stuff as well. I did here there was a change at some point along the way on that but am not sure what head series it starts at.

Not sure why anyone would go back save to save money, the new heads are a little better, not worlds but I know a top (5.20's car) blown alky dragster team that went from the 8x's to the TA1X's and picked up it was either .2 or 4 hundredths (Can't remember which)
