Does any one have problems with timing cover and oil pan bolts coming loose on a billet block ? We ran ours this weekend and they all came loose every pass if so what do we do to keep them tight? I used red locktight on the timing cover and it didnt help

Check the cam thrust and the crank balance.

When I ran too lean and too much ignition timing, I too had loose timing cover and pan bolts. I would loc-tite and have lock washers in my timing cover, by the end of the run the bolts were gone and oil was gushing.
I was detonating cracks right into the cranks and block.

    FYI
At that time I was only making 1430 HP and these are cast iron BBC's.

this sounds likley to me also we had a #1 cyl spike to 1300 for no reason and burn the tip off this happened after two runs at 800-900 and one at 700 when we had the tip burn we richened the cylinder and the system and the spike went away we checked everything and found no reason for the spike the final run was 1000-1100 plugs look good after that run but bolt were loose on cover and pan ??? timing was at 27

Me too but how would it be with the egts and plugs looking the way they do? And the ground strap is not turned color all the way down like the timing is too high and this is the tune up and timing we used last year and we even had it at least 5 sizes smaller on the pill trying to be safe?

took it apart last night three hits and two passes on the rod bearings and they all new the only thing i found was the thing Robert said to look for it had .030 cam end play so the cam was walking......found the problem right? why would this only make the bottom timing cover and oil pan bolts come loose and the pump drive bolts still be tight ?
