Bohr hoping to play the role of spoiler in Indy

CLERMONT, Ind. - Just two weeks after becoming one of the few Top Alcohol Dragsters to eclipse the 270 mph mark, NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster driver Jeff Bohr and his Bar's Leaks sponsored team will hope to take that momentum into this weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at the famed O'Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis. Bohr and his brother and Crew Chief Gary Bohr are hoping to play the role of spoiler at the biggest event in all of drag racing.

Bohr, from Plymouth, Mich., is excited about competing in this weekend's "Big Go" following a strong performance two weeks ago at the Toyo Tires Nationals in Reading, Pa. Bohr ran 270.05 mph in a first round victory over Troy Buff, but was unable to complete the event after persistent rains pushed eliminations back to Tuesday and Wednesday.

"I haven't been this excited to go to a race in a long time," said Bohr. "We were the runner-up here at the divisional earlier in the year, but we fought tire shake all weekend. We finally got the shake out of the car in Reading. We made some adjustments to the tune-up and it finally responded. Running that 270 mph was a big accomplishment for us, and hopefully we can perform at that level this weekend. It will be a tough field, but we're hoping to make a good showing for Bar's Leaks and Rislone. Bob and Fred Mermuys from Bar's Leaks will be out this weekend, so we would love to reward them for their support of our team."

"We ran a 5.39 at the divisional here in the heat, so hopefully we can improve on that this weekend," Bohr continued. "We definitely feel like we have this Bar's Leaks hot rod heading in the right direction."

Competitors in the alcohol categories will receive two qualifying sessions on Friday, one on Saturday and one final session Sunday morning. Eliminations begin with round one on Sunday afternoon, followed by final eliminations Monday.
