Blower set back plate

We are going to be changing our set up soon. We will be running a Littlefield 871 hi helix on a conventional headed big block chevy. I have seen this style blower run in the standard position and everything from 2 1/2 "back to over the center of the ports. Is there any advantage of one to the other? Thanks for any insight.
