Using a Gates 1568 x 14M blower belt on a 6 second dragster. How often should I replace the belt? how many runs?... only 15% overdrive on an 8/71
How often should the aluminium blower mount studs be replaced? using 7075 alloy studs.
    cheers

on the manifold to blower studs, you should be good for a very long time unless you lift the blower from a back fire as for the belt it all depends I've had 15 runs and 0 problems and then I've had 3 runs and broke the belt at the hit..I like to put 8 to 10 runs on a belt..Dave

I have run a 70% overdriven PSI D for 75 runs on a gates 8mm belt, i changed it because i thought all the paint pen lines on the belt looked stupid. My 125% overdriven PSI D i only run for 1. It all depends on how hard you are running the blower and how hard you turn your motor and what your budget is. Belts are mighty expensive if your forever changing them...

Im not running it that hard!
its a 392 Donovan on 90% nitro. engine spins 8500. Blower is a standard helix 8/71 at 15% over. 6.90@200
I have 20 runs on the belt now and it still looks new. should I replace belts at 20, 30, 40 passes??
same question for burst panels...run em til they burst or replace them at set intervals?
    cheers

    belt

On alcohol with an 871 we never broke a 14mm belt and never ran less than 30% OD. Once you get into big blowers and rev limiters thats where the belt carnage comes in.

Even with a hi helix 1471 we ran used 14mm belts from tractor pullers for years. Prob averaged 40-50 runs each.

Make sure you keep them running the same direction and swap it if you hit the limiter hard, overev or anything weird.

    14mm is a lot tougher than 8mm.

Never changed a burst panel until it ruptured either.

I run a std helix 8-71 at 28% over, turn the motor 8200, sometimes 8500, 8mm purple gt belt. Same belt and burst panel has been on for over 50 runs. I have a spare belt and burst panels but I've never had a problem so I dont see the need to change them.

    Belt me

run a 511 at 30-40 over with 8mm. we run em until they break. only had 1 break so far because of a idler bracket problem with misallignment. if your worried about one breaking during a round, buy a belt for eliminations only, and run the other one for qualifying. just change them when its best it doesnt break. i think the 14mm is much stronger, but you have less percentage of change per tooth vs 8mm. i carry spares, and i see these lasting many more years. the studs should last forever, but they get beat up when pulling the pump off. should just keep an eye on the threads more than anything.
