Reichert enters Pomona with Championship in hand

POMONA, Calif. - With his second-straight NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Championship in hand, Bill Reichert and his Rislone Engine Treatment backed team heads into this weekend's Auto Club of Southern California NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, Calif., with intentions of gearing up for next year's championship chase. He also hopes to make it three straight wins at this event.

Reichert, who runs the family business, Reichert Racing Engines in Owosso, Mich., is hoping to enjoy a race without the pressures of worrying about championship points. With the championship clinched, he is looking forward to testing a few ideas in race conditions.

"We're hoping to come out here and have some fun racing without the pressure of the championship," said Reichert. "It gives us an opportunity to try something new or go about something in a different way. We're not going to go crazy, though. If we try anything, it will just be mild changes. The car is too fast to do much besides just tweak on it. After all, it just won us another championship. Hopefully we can cap the season off with another win. I can't think of a better way to thank Rislone and Bar's Leaks for all of their support this year and past years."

Once the race is over, Reichert and his team will head to the championship banquet on Monday before heading home to Michigan.

"Being able to go to the banquet on Monday makes the long drive out here worthwhile," stated Reichert. "You have to worry about getting tuxes and such, but I guess it's a good problem to have. It was such a relief to win last year after coming so close several times. This one feels just as good. We'll be trying just as hard next year to get number three."

Qualifying begins on Thursday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Friday. Eliminations will kick off with round one on Saturday and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
