Reichert scores another win in Columbus

HEBRON, Ohio - Defending NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster World Champion Bill Reichert and his Rislone Engine Treatment backed team took another step towards defending that title by scoring his third win in his last four races during this past weekend's Division 3 event at National Trail Raceway just outside of Columbus, Ohio. The win was another clean sweep for Reichert, qualifying No. 1, setting low elapsed time and top speed of the meet along with the win.

Reichert, from Owosso, Mich., qualified his injected nitro dragster on the pole with a 5.403 second pass at 260.51 mph. In round one, he defeated Dave Heitzman with a 5.504 at 257.48 mph, then took out veteran Mike Kosky in the semifinals with a 5.499 at 256.11 mph to set up the final with last week's Indy winner Marty Thacker.

Reichert's Rislone machine returned to it's qualifying form in the final, taking the win with a 5.344 at 264.86 mph to Thacker's 5.546 at 256.11 mph. The win gives Reichert a commanding 149 point lead in national standings and a 63 point lead over Thacker in Division 3 standings.

"We sort of struggled most of the weekend," said Reichert. "The car just never ran like it should. It was hot and humid all weekend. Columbus is already at around 1000' altitude, so there wasn't a lot of air to work with. The car wasn't making good power. It would fall off and drop cylinders down track."

"We finally found what the car wanted in the final," Reichert continued. "The track was pretty good all weekend and it got a little better every round. We went into the final with high hopes we had found the problem, but we didn't know what we had. As soon as I stepped on the gas, I knew it was back. We found what it was looking for in the final, and it ran real well. It was a good weekend, and we're glad we could get another win for Rislone and Bar's Leaks."

There will be no rest for the Rislone Engine Treatment team as they prepare for an exhibition match race with fellow Bar's Leaks sponsored racer Jeff Bohr at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio, this weekend. It will be the fourth race in the last five weeks for the team.
