From summitt site.googel search. When you want improved conformability.
If you liked the results you used to get with Vandervell bearings, especially their higher conformability, you should love Clevite V-Series rod bearings, which basically duplicate the Vandervell items. They are built on unplated hardened-steel backings, for better dimensional accuracy and bore contact, and have low-to-medium eccentricity. The biggest difference between V-Series and other Clevite 77 bearings is their lead-indium surface alloy, which gives them that extra conformability. V-Series bearings are available in narrower versions, to provided greater crank-fillet clearance, as well as extra-clearance variations that provide an additional 0.001 or 0.002 in. of clearance

    Hi Angela
I think the main difference , the "M" serie is a bit softer than "V" serie brgs.
The "M" is more gentle for the crankshaft but his life is shorter too.
The "M" serie was developped for blown engine.

The V bearings are quite a bit harder. We run them now because, if you go a bit too far when tuning up the motor, the M bearings tend to squish out and burn the crank; your weekend is done. With the V bearings you can get away with detonation more often, and we have found that even if you burn a piston, which would usually blacken the crank badly, the V bearing is usually still in good shape. Change the piston, rod and sleeve and make the next session.

The "M" designation, on Clevite bearings,

stands for Micro babbit. It's the original soft shell.
