I switched from a 3 spd lenco and clutch to a 2 spd b&j with a quickdrive. I'm concerned with engine braking. I'm running an acd shift box with a quickdrive solenoid to shift. I keep hearing dump the air to one of the pods and it will free wheel? This is a 2 spd. Will the tranny not go back to first gear? I have my grid and acd shift box wired to kill switch that kills the ground to the grid and acd shift box. This dumps all the air off tranny. Thanks for your help. Shawn

The Quickdrive and the B&J both have a sprag in them, that means when you lift or down shift it will free wheel as long as you are not under power. A sprag is a one way bearing in simple terms. Works going one way (under power) slips when not under power.

    dumping air

I have my Top Dragster customer's deal set up to a Leahy safety shutoff box. He hits a button to activate the shutoff, it throws one parachute and kills power to the msd shifter brain box. This dumps the air and downshifts it into low, and lets it over run the sprag rather than drag the motor down from decel. It's the equivalent of putting the clutch in during shutdown.

So I would just pull my shift button out to put it back in first after I kill the engine and it will freewheel? Will,on the data recorder does the engine rpm drop back to idle when you dump air. ?

    drop

Yes the motor drops back down. He hits the kill shortly after, but you see engine rpm drop. It doesn't have a lot of oil left in the pan after the run so we pull one chute and kill the motor. Luckily we have carbon brakes and he can usually get it whoa'ed if the chute doesn't come out.
