NORWALK, Ohio (June 25) -- Reigning Super Gas world champion Mia Tedesco raced her CARS Vehicle Service Contracts/VP Racing Fuels Super Gas Chevrolet Cavalier through five rounds of eliminations to log a strong quarterfinal finish at this weekend's 11th annual Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals.

Tedesco also reached the quarterfinals in Top Alcohol Dragster, although that category started with a conventional 16-car field.

"The Super Gas car is running great," Tedesco said. "We could have gone further but some driver error on my part ended the day. It wasn't much but the difference between winning and losing out here isn't very much so every little thing matters.

"The Top Alcohol Dragster has been a lot of work and we're still trying to figure some things out with it. We've got a weekend off so we'll have a chance to work on it and see if we can't get it dialed in for Chicago."

Running on a 9.90-second index in Super Gas, Tedesco beat four tough opponents before bowing out in the fifth round. She opened with a 9.915 against Raymond Miller, posted a 9.939 against Joey Ship's 9.970 in Round 2, had a 9.911 versus Mike Lagos' 9.940, and beat Steve Hoyt, 9.907 to 9.913.

Trying to get to the semifinals, Tedesco broke-out against quarterfinal foe Trevor Larson, running -.004 under her index with a 9.896 to Larson's 9.919.

"Hopefully I will do better next time out," Tedesco said. "The car's running really good, which is very encouraging, so hopefully I can get my stuff together behind the wheel and get us a win very soon. Chicago in two weeks would be perfect."

Tedesco will run both cars at the 20th annual Route 66 NHRA Nationals, which takes place July 7-9 at Route 66 Raceway. She's qualified for the elite JEGS Allstars in her Top Alcohol Dragster, so she'll get a chance at two trophies in that car, while she'll contest the regular national event in her Super Gas hot rod.

This weekend in her CARS Vehicle Service Contracts/Schepel Motors/NGK/Lucas Oil Top Alcohol Dragster, Tedesco reached the quarterfinals before losing to Jackie Fricke. Tedesco earned a huge .062-second reaction time advantage at the starting line but immediately spun the tires, allowing Fricke by for a 5.294-second, 276.80-mph victory.

Tedesco also showed off her driving prowess in the first round of TAD, as she drove though tire shake early and then executed a perfect pedal job around half-track to stay ahead of Karen Stalba, winning with a 5.772 at 261.42 mph to Stalba's 5.857 at 233.76 mph.
