Annie Whiteley still looking for first national win in Vegas

Annie Whiteley 1 James Drew Photography.jpg LAS VEGAS – Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Annie Whiteley has had the year that most rookies only dream of. She has already clinched the Western Region Championship with four wins on the regional level but has yet to take home the “Wally” from a national event. During this weekend’s Big O Tire Nationals at ‘The Strip’ at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, she and her YNot Racing team will be looking for that coveted first national win.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., won the first event of her young career during the spring Western Regional in Las Vegas. She hopes to cash in on some more Vegas luck this weekend.

“We have already had a dream season,” said Whiteley. “I have to give a lot of credit to my team; they have given me such a good racecar. It seems like we are getting a little closer to that first national event win every time we go out. If you look around, there are a lot of really good teams that have never won a national, so we definitely have our work cut out for us.

“Winning is obviously our ultimate goal,” Whiteley continued. “Our main goal is to just make a good showing. If we can make good runs and I do my job driving we have a chance. We always like racing in Vegas, so we are looking forward to it.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions and will conclude Saturday morning with one final session. Eliminations begin with round one Saturday afternoon and final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
