Annie Whiteley looking to share husband’s success on “The Mountain”

Annie Pomona Burn.jpg MORRISON, Colo. – Home field advantage, or home track in this case, is not a term often used in drag racing. However, one could make a strong argument for the YNot Racing Team’s string of wins at their home track of Bandimere Speedway just outside of Denver. In Top Alcohol Dragster, Jim Whiteley has won the event for the past four years. Former team driver turned Crew Chief Roger Bateman won the event in Top Alcohol Funny Car last year. Rookie Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Annie Whiteley hopes to share that same ‘home field’ success as she will be looking for her second win of the year during this weekend’s Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series “Thunder on the Mountain” Central Regional at Bandimere Speedway.

This weekend’s event marks the first time in over a month Whiteley has competed in the team Top Alcohol Funny Car. She cites a strong test session on Thursday has her back ready to compete. She is currently tenth in national standings, and is third in Western Region standings.

“I was a little nervous coming into this weekend,” said Whiteley. “It kind of calmed my nerves. I have ran our Top Dragster a couple times in bracket races, but this car is a different animal. The test really helped get me back up to speed.”

The Whiteleys, who own and operate their businesses J & A Services and Advanced Oilfield Services in Grand Junction, Colo., will play host to company guests and employees this weekend.

“This is a big weekend for us,” stated Whiteley. “We will have a lot of employees and guests out here since this is the closest race on the NHRA tour we race at. We will also have my sister Anita racing in Top Dragster, our son Stephen Whiteley in Top Sportsman and John Baker in Top Sportsman. When any of us are able to get a win, there is a lot of us to share in the celebration.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with one session, followed by two sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
