Annie Whiteley looking for continued success in Chicago

Annie Pomona Burn.jpg JOLIET, Ill. – Coming off her second regional event win of the year in Tulsa last weekend, rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Annie Whiteley and the YNot Racing team will be looking for continued success during this weekend’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway just outside of Chicago. Whiteley enters the event ranked third in national points standings.

Whiteley, from Grand Junction, Colo., enters one of the toughest races of her short career this weekend. Despite having a great deal of early success on the regional level, she is quick to point out that does not guarantee her anything on the national event level.

“I have a great team behind me,” said Whiteley, wife of current Top Alcohol Dragster points leader Jim Whiteley. “It is really amazing the success we have had this year, winning two regional events. When we started this year, my goal was to win a round, then take it in steps. So far on the national level we have only won one round, so we just need to focus on taking the next step.

“In a tough field like we will see this weekend, nearly any car that makes the field is capable of winning,” Whiteley continued. “There won’t be much room for error.”

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars with two sessions, followed by one final session on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
