Alky heads up race next year

need some input guys and gals, how many would be interested in a so called Bama Nationals per say, alky dragsters, funnies and pro mods, 10.5 cars
run what ya brung, 100% nitro injected, any blower on blown alky, running 1/4 mile for dragsters & funnies, 1/8 mile for rest
$10 grand to winner $2500 to runner up and $1000 1st round lost
probably in MTG Al, and look at a good date to work in schedule
    any input?

I think it sounds cool, the only thing I would say is that we stay within guidelines of the existing rules so that we have working combinations instead of mixing it up for stuff that wouldn't necessarily work that "May" limit some getting from A to B.

Next--what would the field be? Also, $3500 or 5K for R/U? is that possible?

We haven't set up our 08 schedule just yet, so I wouldn't know dates right now.

    call

    Guy,
Give me a call. (979) 415-4959. I talked to some people last year about doing an ADRL style circuit for alky cars. 10k to win a/fd (8 car), b/ad, tafc, 5k for t/d, t/s.

As far as 100% nitro a/fd, i think you'll lose more cars than you'll gain, but I could be wrong. Especially for a single event. The event would have the benefit of gathering test data if you keep it current with the rules rather than a free for all, rules be damned. Sure a couple of cars may find that attractive, but I think your better running cars will find it less attractive to make the neccessary changes to run 100% for one event, and will probably pass.

Also, unless drastic improvements were made, I think having it at Montgomery wouldn't help car counts. Good market for such a race, but the last time I was there, the transition at 200' was like hitting the back door of your trailer without the fold out ramp. What about Huntsville? A fall event at No Problem Raceway could be profitable.

    blown altereds?

how about blown alky altereds? and why does ALL the racing seem to be down south??? There are atleast 12 tracks within 3 hours from me, but nobody seems to want to do anything up here. There are plenty of alky/nitro/pro mod /10.5 cars here to, so why not somewhere here, like Atco, Cecil County, or Englishtown?

    alky race

my take is yes to the blown altereds, and would love to see injected nitro funnies, and also if we could have success maybe do a Southern race
and a northern race, this is why we need some input we need another outlet
    for alky racers

Doubt my car is quick enough, but I don't have a problem being a network time filler if it gives me another place to play............ especially since I'm only 65 miles from the Bama line.......... :D

    $$$

Last year I ran some numbers on an ADRL type circuit for the alcohol cars. One, it would take significant investment to get it going (much like ADRL has from Tommy Lipar and Dave Wood), not to mention a lot of time. At the time there was no way I could consider trying to run such an organization and maintain the commitment to the team I was driving for.

The structure was to have like mentioned above, 8 car, $10k to win fields for B/AD, A/FD, and TAFC. There would also be a 'B' dragster and Funny Car field for qualifiers 8-16 (seperate fields, non combined), along with $5k T/S and T/D fields.

Payout for B/AD, A/FD and TAFC was:
    $10,000 win
    $5,000 r/u
    $2,500 semi
    $1,500 qual

    Payout for 'B' Dragster/FC field
    $2,500 win
    $1,000 r/u
    $500 semi
    $250 qual

    Top Sportsman/Top Dragster
    $5,000 win
    $1,000 r/u
    $500 semi
    $200 quarters
    $100 eighths
    $150 entry - 64 car fields

That's just the payout structure. As you can see, to put on a race of that scale, you have to have a pretty strong operating budget. Outside promotions are also risky, very risky. To do a ten race series, it would require an operating budget in excess of 1.5 million. Probably up that number another half million or more if you put it on television.

On a single event basis, someone needs to have $150,000 ready to spend on such an event.

ADRL's ticket give away approach definitely merits interest. If you did a series and had a series sponsor along with event sponsorship, you can break even at around 1900 paying spectators a day. I feel by staying out of national event tracks, you can make it happen without giving away the tickets.

    Investors, operators are standing by...
