Alexis DeJoria Racing Team Puts Topeka in the Rearview; Looks Ahead to Englishtown

Venice, CA (May 24, 2011) – The Alexis DeJoria Racing team left Topeka, KS yesterday feeling somewhat frustrated and ready to put the Summer Nationals behind them. Coming off a good showing in Houston earlier this month, the team had high expectations going into Topeka.

The weekend got off to a late start due to the severe weather, which lead to the cancellation of the first qualifying round. The weather looked to be touch-and-go all weekend which drove Alexis to make the decision to pedal down the track when she was finally able to race for the first time on Friday evening, not knowing whether or not she’d have a chance to run again before the first round of eliminations. During the first run the car shook a lot. Alexis ran a 5.88, the team’s best time of the weekend, which put the team in the 10th spot and enabled them to not have to go against one of the higher qualified cars come the first round of eliminations.

Saturday’s qualifying round didn’t prove to be much better for Team DeJoria, as the car shook badly again right out the gate. The team’s driver Alexis DeJoria said “I knew then, that there was no point in pedaling it because the car wasn’t going to do any better than it had the night before.” To mitigate the shake they had earlier on Saturday, the team’s crew changed the transmission prior to the last round of the day. The new transmission made too much horsepower, causing the car to spin the tires, and costing the team the opportunity to advance in the competition.

“The car was ‘off’ all weekend” Alexis said. “It’s just very frustrating because we have an excellent car- it’s the second fastest in the world! So for us not to even make it down the track knowing how fast it can go; it’s just extremely frustrating.” Alexis then went on to add that some minor, but necessary crew changes were made over the course of the weekend.

The team’s main focus now is looking ahead to Englishtown, a race that has always been good to them. “We’re a team, we stick together, and sometimes this stuff happens. Right now, we’re all just looking forward to Englishtown- that’s “our race” and I can’t wait to get back on that track!”

The Alexis DeJoria Racing team will compete next at the 42nd Annual NHRA SuperNationals in Englishtown, NJ, June 2nd-June 5th.
