De Joria logs another strong outing in Woodburn

WOODBURN, Ore. - Rookie NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis De Joria logged another strong outing during this past weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Woodburn, Ore. The event marked the second straight weekend De Joria qualified the Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing Dodge Charger for the eight car show.

De Joria, 29, of Venice, Calif., qualified the Randy Anderson tuned hot rod fifth with a 5.885 second elapsed time at 236.53 mph. The time stood as low elapsed time of the first qualifying session. In round one, she squared off with current Division 7 points leader Sean Bellemeur. De Joria gave Bellemeur a close race, trailing his 5.808 at 250.90 mph with her own 5.885 at 245.09 mph.

"It was another good weekend for the team," said De Joria. "For the second straight weekend, we started off the weekend No. 1 qualifier after the first session. I learned a lot this weekend. I'm starting to get a feel for what the car is doing down track. It's really stepping up my confidence. I had the best light of my career in the first round, but Sean had a killer light and still left on me. I was back in front of him early in the run, but it had some sort of problem in the ignition and misfired, then shook. After I pedaled it and shifted it, he jumped out in front of me. With as far as you sit back in these Dodge Chargers, if you see the other guy, it's not good because he's really out in front."

"Overall it was just an awesome race," De Joria continued. "It really felt good to have another good outing. The team is really starting to get settled in. We're still taking baby steps, but we're looking forward to getting on a national event track."

The next event for the Tequila Patrón/Jack O'Bannon Racing team will be the Schuck's Auto Supply Nationals at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle, Jul. 20-22.
