De Joria looking for new career bests in Seattle

KENT, Wash. – The last time second-year NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis De Joria and the Tequila Patrón/Jack O’Bannon Racing team raced at Pacific Raceways just outside of Seattle, De Joria ran the quickest pass of her career. De Joria and her Bob DeVour lead team will be looking to better those marks for this weekend’s Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event held there.

De Joria, 30, of Venice, Calif., ran a 5.73 second elapsed time during last year’s Schuck’s Auto Parts Nationals, which was the quickest pass of her young career. The daughter of hair styling mogul John Paul De Joria, dipped into the 5.60’s for the first time with a 5.69 at the SummitRacing.com Nationals in Las Vegas, and hopes to set new marks this weekend in Seattle.

“The last couple of races have been crazy for us,” said De Joria. “We would struggle in qualifying, the make a good pass in round one. We ran really well in Seattle last year, so that’s the perfect track for us to go to right now. We found a few issues that we fixed at our last race so hopefully we can run some good numbers in Seattle. It’s a good track and it’s supposed to be cool, so I’m really looking forward to racing there.”

“It’s really a beautiful facility,” De Joria continued. “We ran a 5.73 here last year, which was my best run for a long time. I love racing up here. I’m bringing my daughter, so we’re making a mini-vacation out of it.”

With her teammate Sean O’Bannon switching to the ‘08 Chevy Monte Carlo body, De Joria plans to stick with her ’07 Dodge Charger.

“We made some changes to improve my visibility in the Charger,” cited De Joria. “I can see really well out of the car now, and I’m used to driving with that body. I don’t think we’ll be changing bodies anytime soon.”

Qualifying will be ran Friday evening for the alcohol cars with final eliminations concluding the event Saturday evening.
