Ahten and Crew to enjoy some home cooking this weekend at Pomona

Pomona, CA - For veteran A/Fuel Dragster driver Johnny Ahten the 2010 season has seen its share of highs and lows, both on the track and in his personal life. The driver of the CleanBoost® Performance Motor Oil/Island Renovations/Hedman Hedders dragster started the year by qualifying 3rd at The Winter Nationals. All signs were good for thing to come in 2010. "We had some highs and lows this year, we had some mechanical problems, hurt some motors, but we were able to also share in some great moments like winning the IHRA Nitro Jam at Salt Lake City, UT in July." A personal high for Johnny was also achieved this season when he was made Captain of the Los Angeles Fire Department just a few months ago, following in the footsteps of his father, Al.

Returning to his home track at Pomona has Johnny and the crew very excited for the opportunity to go out and compete at a high level once again. "Pomona is my Indy," Said Ahten. " Growing up my whole life and sitting in those bleachers and watching the guys before me, wanting to be that driver some day, now that I am the guy." The home track has been nice to Ahten and his crew. At the NHRA Finals in 2009 the team ran a career best ET (5.256) and MPH (269.78)."It's just great for us all around, because my family and friends all come out in big numbers, as well as the guys from the fire department in their off time, its a great feeling to be out there running knowing I have so much support behind me."

The crew has spent the past several months testing with their new CleanBoost® Performance Motor Oil, which for a self-funded operation has paid dividends towards saving parts, especially in the bottom end this year where they can. "With a small budget to operate on, and having to save as and reuse as many parts as we can, it’s been a blessing to run such a superior product. I have to thank the crew at Clean Boost Performance Motor Oils for their support this season and I look forward to building a larger relationship with them in 2011."

The team plans to freshen up the entire Uyehara chassis this off-season, and hopefully with some additional new partners coming on board, be poised to make a serious run at the field in 2011. "I am so proud of the work that Howard Katano, my Dad Al, Uncle Bob, Todd “Rocky” Rockwell and Kevin “Shark” Colvell have put forth this season. Without the support of CleanBoost® Performance Motor Oils, Hedman Hedders and Island Renovations there is no way we could have accomplished what we did. I am blessed to be surrounded by great people and I am truly excited for this weekend and into 2011.”

Johnny Ahten and the entire Stump Puller crew will begin their quest to capture the teams first NHRA “Wally” with their first qualifying attempt on Thursday afternoon at 12:00 p.m. The team will also have two more sessions to crack the 16-car field on Friday. Eliminations begin on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

    About Johnny Ahten:

Ahten attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School in 1998, and for the Santa Clarita, Calif. based racer, the hook was set. In 1999, he competed in his first full season of Top Eliminator West and earned Rookie of The Year honors. Earlier this season, Ahten captured his first career A/Fuel Dragster win after dominating the IHRA Pro Fuel Category, setting track records in elapsed time and speed in the process at the Salt Lake Nitro-Jam at Rocky Mountain Raceway. When not racing, Ahten is a Captain with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. He gets to drive fast on and off the track. “Both my racing and my career can be very similar,” noted Ahten. ”Both require good people skills and performance under pressure.”
