After a Successful Day of Nitro Testing in New Car, Team DeJoria is Right on Track with Dallas Transition Plan

Venice, CA (June 29, 2011) – Following the NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, OH, Top Female Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Alexis DeJoria, stayed behind a day to test in her brand new Nitro Fuel Funny Car this past Monday.

Alexis, who’s planning her big Nitro debut at the NHRA Fall Nationals in Dallas in late September, is already causing quite a buzz in the racing community, and for good reason! “Nitro testing has gone extremely well, and anyone who has had the pleasure of watching Alexis test can tell you that she handles the car exceptionally well,” said Alexis’ publicist, Allison McCormick.

Monday’s test session was no exception, as Alexis made four runs in her new Tequila Patrόn Fuel Funny Car. This was Alexis’ first time racing in her newly built car. In fact, she was only fitted for her seat just last Wednesday. In order to get a feel for her car, she went to half-track during her first two runs. This also enabled the Kalitta team to get data on what the restrictor plate engine combination needed for her tune up. The NHRA mandates the restrictor plates, and since this was the first time the team had run them, it was important for the Kalitta crew to make sure that everything was exactly how it needed it to be. Alexis then made two full runs resulting in a 4.30 and a 4.38.

The purpose of Monday’s test run was not to focus on speed, but to get Alexis used to going down the track, and to give her some additional ‘seat time.’ Alexis' new teammate Jeff Arend, driver of the DHL Funny Car, and Kalitta Co-Crew Chiefs Jon Oberhofer and Nicky Boninfante were very pleased with how well Alexis listened and adjusted during each run. Improvements were made with each lap. Alexis’ Business Manager, Bob Lawson, who was also at the track, said “She is very comfortable in the car and was able to provide accurate feedback for the team. We were all very impressed with how well she was able to manage and stay ahead of the car, and keep it down the center of the track, which will make it a lot easier for Team DeJoria to be a top contender come Dallas.”

“I’m so excited about this transition to Nitro! It’s been something that I’ve wanted and has been talked about for so long! I felt extremely comfortable in the car, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. Really, I couldn’t have asked for a better test day,” said Alexis.

Alexis currently has thirty-two Nitro test runs under her belt, and is planning on twenty-five more prior to her Dallas debut, including six runs on Monday, July 11th following the Chicago Nationals.
