i have aquired a accusump for engine oil made by aft that holds about 2qts of oil. appantly what they use this for is they fill it with oil, pressurize the rear end of the cylinder which pushes a piston inside of it to compress the oil. now on the outlet a valve is actuated by a timer during the run to slam around 350 lbs of oil into the main oil galleys to keep the mains alive during the last part of the run. now my question is, in my alchohol car when i push both chutes out, the oil pressure takes a dump. it is a dry sump system and a fontana hemi engine. now, i was thinking i could use this 2 ways, one is to use a manual valve along with my fuel shutoff valve when starting open them both up just before turning the engine over to get oil flowing quickly, and at the end of the run, it might help recover some of the oil pressure loss when the negative gs hit,so the rods dont get starved. i can leave the engine running until it builds backup and then hit the fuel shutoff and valve for the sump at the same time, leaving pressure in the cyl. for the next run. im sure im not the first to think of this, but has anybody tried it here? i have about 14 qts in the system to begin with, but the 4 stage dry sump scavanges it real good. there is only 1 pressure section. oil pressure is in the 200 psi plus when running.

    Not enuf oil

14 quarts in a dry sump is not enough oil. We run 20 in ours (miner motor, psi 10k plus rpm) and there is hardly any in the tank after a run. If you run your car and shut it down normally, drain the oil out of the pan and measure it. You will find that there is about 12 quarts in the motor after a run. That doesn't leave much at 14 total. just my .02 based on experience. I have no experience with an accusump on an alcohol motor, but it would work. You will make your shut down starvation much better if you just run 18-20 quarts.

I have used the accusumps to both prime and maintian oil pressure during shutdown. Just as you described with the ball valve - just remmeber to close it whe the engine is running for the next start up. Probably ought to get one back on now that I use the chute all the time.

Would have thought the dry sump would not loose pressure during shutdown so maybe you have some issues to deal with - like Clint is saying about 20 qts.

I used an accusump on my blown bbc and loved it, had 20lbs oil psi and falling at the turn off with the motor shut down since the chutes hit. I just plumbed it in after the filter and before returning to the block (new century) with a tee.

    accusump on a dry sump

Are there any issues using an accusump on a dry sump oiling system ; such as a check valve so the accusump doesn't send pressure to the pump when activated ? Does the rule of 20 qts in the system hold true for all applications ? I have a blown sbc with dry sump. Thanks , bob
