i have a question for everyone. in regards to reaching parity between the 2 cars.....what would happen if NHRA changed the rule for the a-fuel clutches, and made them run 3 discs? could the cars still be competitive with 3? the way i understand it is those cars like to be lugged, so they really need that 4th disc. i wonder exactly how much it would slow them down. just a thought

    Applied friction loads the engine.
The extra disk just increases the surface area that allows the clutch to run cooler and last longer.
So it would only raise clutch maintence and not slow the cars down.
Although the lighter rotating assembly would increase acceleration as there is no gear change to require a heavy flywheel effect to reduce RPM loss during the shifts.
You can not change the laws of physics.
