After a nasty crash on Easter Sunday of this year, we really thought our 23 plus years in Funny Car racing was coming to a close. With the economy as slow it has been and short hours at work, Dad really had no way of repairing and rebuilding our hot rod. But before we even left the track, Dad's peers were already stepping up to help us out. The overwhelming show of support and compassion from our fellow racers has really touched us all at Shooting Star Motorsports and Earth Shaking Entertainment. The car was front halved by Horton’s in South Carolina in less then two weeks. We picked up a beautiful body, a 2006 Dodge Stratus in Michigan and have spent the chunk of our time mounting it. New wheels, carbon brakes, tires and a million other odds and ends had to be pieced together.

This past weekend at the NHRA O'Reilly Auto parts National Event at Zmax Dragway was the first time CAR-GOYLE would touch the track. Our goals were simple..... Pass body tech, Pass fuel tech, qualify in the short field, make a shake down pass to see if the beast went straight, not break anything, and enjoy ourselves. I can proudly say we met every goal we set for ourselves. Without Dad's long hours in the garage with family and friends it never would have happened.

We passed all techs, and made one qualifying run on Friday. He left at a damn near idol and it rolled passed the 60' with a sluggish 1.00 60 ft time. The car went straight but Dad struggled with visibility as the dog house was way too tall. He clicked it early running an 8.430 at only 105.36 M.P.H.

We spent the rest of the afternoon and next morning cutting down the dog house as far as we could with this windshield. It was better but far from great.

Round one had us paired with #2 qualifier John Bojec. He ran a 5.60 at 259.36 M.P.H in qualifying. Great team with a great car. The two left hard and both started to shake. Both cars headed for the center lane and both drivers pedaled it. With Dad running into vision problems again he clicked it early with a 8.488 107.52 M.P.H as Bojec continued to pedal it to a winning 6.322 247.52 M.P.H

It was a great weekend for us as a team. We have some work to do so that Dad is comfortable, but that will come. We really just want to thank a bunch of folks!
