Has anyone heard if the 7 point harness is going to be mandatory in '08 for the alcohol class?

    Great Question Joe,

I'm going to email Craig & DT to see if we can find anything out.

    Thanks for the reminder.

I thought it came out a couple of months ago that this, along with the new roll bar padding, was going to be mandatory

I called NHRA tech a few weeks ago as I was sending belts for recert. Iwas told "No Change in the seatbelt rule" but we will need the head bumpers in 2008. That was direct from NHRA tech.

Everyone should use the 7-point harness. It's one of the best things I ever did for myself in the car--back in 2001! Everyone needs to catch up! It's a much safer feeling--keeping you straight and tighter in the seat. Once you use it, you'll never go back.

my understanding at this point is the helmet shroud & pads are going to become mandatory for NHRA TA/FC Cars in 08.

If anyone Wants to install the 7 point, Taylor Motorsports has the straps that go into the existing systems, the only additional requirement to the chassis are the tabs.

Per Dennis, For the shrouds you can make it out of ti, 4130 steel or approved carbon and he also mentioned about the new rules that we should hear something about this soon.

Hope this helps everyone to start getting our cars ready for 08.

This is the way to go ! a great harness and alot more secure if attached in the proper position (consult a builder ?) to avoid the "chicken wing" effect, Or for keeping "Little People" up on the phone book ! I think the latter is the endorsement we are hearing here.;)

to me his question seems a complete surprise. If you need to replace your belts why wouldnt you put the 7 point harness in your car? I have thought about this at length today before commenting but here goes. Lets say for example the NHRA has no ruleson driver safety and its in your (the drivers) hands to make it safe for yourself. What are you going to buy? A single layer firesuit or the thickest safest suit you can buy. What about a head restraint...if it wasnt required would you wear one. I know some drivers who cant think enough about their own safety and others that just do what they are told. Be proactive, buy whats the safest you can get, is a couple of bucks saved worth your life....or worth the burns on your hands you might recieve, or a broken neck.

All you have to do is speak with one person that has experienced burns and you will definitely spend every cent you have to have the best fire equipment on board.
