We're trying to figure out what type of fuel line to use to connect our fuel pump to the tank. Our tank is close enough to the pump, that the outlet of the tank and the inlet of the fuel pump is directly inline w/ each other. (vertical) Basically all we need is a -16 line w/ straight female ends but it only needs to be 5 5/8" long. Would a regular braided steel line work or is there a chance on it sucking shut?

A steel braided line will work.

Make sure it has a fairly stiff steel braid on it, you don't want it to collapse. The other way to do it is to run a short piece of metal tubing between the pump and the tank, leaving very minimal gap between all connections, and hose clamp a short piece of rubber hose at each end. This ensures there can be no collapse.

I've successfully used clear vinyl hose in some applications. One I know for sure has been 6 years and I just changed it, for no reason other than because.

I've run braid before with no problems. Mine was about 11" long and worked great. My new car, due to length, is a aluminum tube, with rubber slip connects on the ends. Works too. I think i would try a braided line on yours

I used a universal radiator hose with a internal spring, cheap & easy to find, lasts forever

Same thing Don Garbage used to run. Do you use the spring style hose clamps...like he did?

Me too!! you can get the 1-1/4" radiator hose in a real nice tight radius that is the same size right through!:D
