Running 526 Veney 2.5 valve motor w/ 10.6 compression, mag 44, whipple screw making 43 lbs of boost. Currently running 27 degrees max, my motor guy tells me 28 is the max on this setup. Just curious if anyone has ever run more than this on a similar large chamber combo?

I have a very similar question....10.5:1 compression - 4.310" bore X 4.500" stroke 526 - 175 CC AJII heads....44 amp mag...25-30 lbs boost....we run the mag @ 28 degress and it does not seem to be real timing sensitive....even at 30-32 degrees the car does not pick up much....whats the limit on timing? When does it start detonating and hurt itself? Would a load of fuel and 36 degrees be a bad move?

Nitro madness, I have basically same as you, except 11.5:1 and stage 2 heads. she liked 36 degrees never hurt a bearing, but 37 would get a bearing and 38 got several bearings.

this was with a automatic and maybe she would load up on the hit and rattle it and hurt the bearing there. so i was gonna try to launch at 32 to tame her down, then ramp back to 36 1 sec in run and then ramp as an experiment up to 38 39 degree to about 500 ft and then pull her back to 36 thru the lights at the 660 and see how she liked it.

have not got to try and experiment, still trying to get the rods back in her after the last run.

Thanks Bruce, I guess you might know a thing or 2 about this combo. Motors been working great so far, got about 40 passes on it and other than a thrust bearing issue, no probs

you can use a timing controller if you want and leave with a couple more degrees in it ,but i would only do that in bad hot air to help get it moving. then pull it out about 1.5 into the run. in good cool air, you will be have more than enough at the hit.

I've run as much as 32 degrees with no real improvement (541 Veney fuel head) but I'm still using a SM3 mag, so probably need a few more degrees to start with, but motor just seems happier at 26-28 degrees and blower starter and belt are definitely happier.....:D

    Hi Danny,
On your combo my experience would say 29 degrees is max. The question is how lean is the engine? My experience 28 or 29 never really made any difference to the mph or et at 800 to 1400 ft corrected. Now I won't say upping or lowering the timing doesn't help on certain sections of the track. Of course at ie.4000 ft corrected you may run 31 degrees all the way. Depends where you run on and on which given day.
    Just my thoughts
