Heavy Door car, T400, leaving from idle, 33.5 16.5 x 15's Stiff sidewall's, 8 psi in the tires.

Does the wrinkle look like this tire needs even MORE pressure in the tires??

    Thanks guys

I run a 3100lb door car, 31.25"x12"X15"s, we run between 8.5 and 9.5 psi, our tires look really wrinkly but they seem happy with it, Ive tried more pressure, cant get the thing to leave.....tire shake.....some cones died.....it wasnt real pretty.

how many screws are you running per side you might want to double up or go to bead locks.
    i run a 3350 lb door car with a 33x16x15 and i run 9.5 psi the car gets a 1.17 60foot with an et of 7.60's
i got 16 screws per side on my rims
but yes it does look like you have alot of wrinkles there

Watch a top fuel car bury the rims at the hit, although it's with beadlocks. The same tire with beadlocks will wrinkle less due to the better clamping of a beadlock.

Your tires can also wrinkle like that if you are not getting up on the tire fast enough. If you don't have enough wheel then that is what happens. Look at your tire prints at launch and see if you are basketballing? If so that could be tire pressure or shock adjustment. If you plant the tires too hard on the hit because the rebound (extension) of the shock is too tight then that will happen. It can also be caused in some cases by too loose of a compression.

    high speed camera

Any body ever mess around with high speed cameras that are focused in on the face of the tire?

I have never had the money to invest in any high speed camera technology but I have used a video camera to shoot the tire from the sidewall to see slippage, how much the tire is wrapping and how fast the car is getting up on the tire.

I have used a Panasonic PV-GS150 video camera with 3 ccds (for the red green blue) it only costs $700.00 but it has up to a 1/8000 shutter speed in video mode this gives you 6 frames per second with very little blur. Other video cameras use one CCD and take 3 pictures in a row, one red one green and one blue and combine them to make one frame so the 3 ccd technology allows much faster shutter speed. The fact that its a video camera means you can leave it on a tripod and let it shoot away instead of having to devote a crew member to film duty like you have to do with a conventional camera.

I have certainly never gotten those ESPN tire and pipe shots but for 700 its hard to beat and has really helped with tire and suspension work.

    Hey Mike

    Is that back to front?

Too loose extension smashes the tire into the track

Too tight extension makes the tire spin

Or have I got it wrong AGAIN:rolleyes:
