    Spinning Tires

    Hi i have a 265" mike bos, 540ci big chief 1471, powerglide coan, 4.10 gear. 34.5 tire.

I am having problems hooking up off the line, sometimes a slite slip but not enough to abort the run and others it looks like another burnout.

    any suggestions

    burnout?
weight?were should i move it around
launch rpm is 3400 are the tires not being hit hard enough?
    should i retard timing i launch with a 2 step&syleniod

    thanks everyone,

knock some timing out at the hit then ramp it back in are 1.0- 1.5 seconds in to the run say if you have 30* timing knock 5* to 8* out at the hit it should help

Could be a couple of things. Are your wheels fairly wide, or narrower than the tire? If the rims are too narrow, you won't get enough footprint on the track. If the footprint are good, usually adding another pound of pressure helps hook up harder. We usually run 5 psi on good tracks (to keep the wheel speed up), and 6 psi or more on bad race tracks. I am assuming you have new tires on the car.

Jim, how would you take the timing out, do u use a timmer or? not sure? its a Mag 20.

yes they are new tires 34.5x17 and they are on 16" wide rims. We ran it with 5.75psi.

We used to have the exact same problem with a very similar combo. We installed a MSD 8973 timing computer and properly used it worked great. You just experiment with removing timing at the hit, then bring it back in increments. The worse the launch pad, the more timing you kill to get rolling and bring back based on track conditions. Lots of guys on here don't talk highly of them but we had NO problem whatsoever using this method. I have gone nostalgia now with a clutch and don't use the box anymore so I would sell if interested. 509-679-8999 Greg

automatic cars you all most have to knock some out at the hit back when i ran my blown altered with a power glide i never knew what it was going to do on the starting line go straight sideways spin shake are go down and there wasnt any way back then to knock timing out and put it back in i dont run a automatic but i have helped some friend get theres lined out there are different ways to do it six shooters ect.

One other thing that has not been said is your wheelie bar hight. To low can unload the tires and spin hard to. Tire PSI is probably the way to go. Adding to Ken's post not knowing if you have tubes and liners or not makes a big diffrence also. With tubes and liners you can run a higher tire psi. On all my blown alky alterds and fc's with glides I sometimes run 45 to 55 in the liners and 5 3/4 to 6 1/4 in the tires. No tubes and liners that tire psi will always spin so 5 to 5 3/4 depending on track condition. With that rear gear and tire size you should not be spinning. If you can try to keep the tire psi on the higher side. To low can be bad on the side wall of the tire. look at all your pictures close once you get the bos hooked up out of the hole and make sure they are not all bunched up. If they are bump them up 1/4 of a pound untill the tire turns 1 to 1 1/2 revolution. Hope that helps out some adding to the other great advice.

We are going to go out first and tackle tire pressure, no we dont hit the wheelie bar went 6.58@210 and only lifted the front left tire about 2 inches.

then also take some timming out at the hit. well try next time out and report back
