What's the difference between roots blower mfg?

Is the PSI that much better than a Littlefield or Mooneyham?

What would be the difference between a Hi Helix PSI compared to the Littlefield?

Why is the Littlefield 1/4th the cost?

Just curious as blowers are new to me...

Are you talking 4 times the cost for a couple of tenths?

    Thanks for the feedback everybody.

Like you said people pay a lot for a tenth of a second. Some blowers make more boost on the hit faster and more boost at RPM with a cooler charge. Some also maintain there boost longer without restripping. Unless you have big bucks I think the best Roots blower for what it costs is the Littlefield with the K-11 rotors. If you have the money then the DMPE M5 is the best. If your class allows it the the PSI screw blower is the best.

    Blower differences.

I think your right on the money Mike! I use a Littlefield H/H Retro with standard rotors on my 355 inch SBC which works fine even at 10 over! But if money was no question,i'd have a "D" PSI-screw on it in a flash!! I'm not sure about over there in the U.S but a good "D" here is about double the price of a hi-quality Rootes.:eek:But as you already stated,if rules allow...GET SCREWED!! No question about it!:D:D

Okay.. So If I have identical Roots Blowers:

    PSI 1471 Hi-Helix
    LITTLEFIELD 1471 Hi-Helix no mods

Are we talking a tenth of a second.. Just generally, 5 tenths?

Is it a huge difference in technology and rotor design or is it rather a minor difference? Are the parts that much better?

Well the PSI Roots has some pretty advanced rotors and I think will give you more boost on the hit. The Littlefield with the K-11 rotors has Darren Mayer Kobelco designed rotors which are also real good. The problem with having more boost on the hit is having a car that will take it. If you have to use a lot of launch retard to make it run then I am not sure it is worth it. The M5 is probably the best all around blower out there with a price tag of $13000 and now the more affordable M4 by Darren. The advantage of the M series blowers is the tuneability for the application. There is no other blower like it. The other thing to note here is do not think that you can take one of these M series blowers and apply the same fuel setup as a Littlefield K-11. You need to pay somebody like Jon Salemi or Bill Barrett or somebody else with M series experience to set these fuel system up.

Ok, good reading.. but I have an SSI HHR D it's only a 10-71 but how does the D series SSI stack up to these other blowers you guys are talking about?

The SSI blowers are great but are really in a different class to the PSI Roots or the M series. As far as comparing a Littlefield with K-11 rotors to an SSI D rotor I would have to say that the Littlefield is better but if not tuned correctly then you may not see much difference between those two.

now what I'd really love to stick into my case if I ever hit the lotto is some of those DMPE Psycho rotors... those things look like they would make crazy power!

I'm sure I'm no where near even scratching the surface of my blower only running it 7% over the race and previous season. On a SBC, got some new pulleys planning on going to around 14 or so for the next race, just need to really understand the fuel part of the tune-up, I have a lot to learn in regards to how one thing affects the next when you mess with fuel.
