I was told that if i shut the fuel off first and let the motor rev up then kill the mag it will damage the strips in the blower any truth to this?

We've been doing that for years now with no problems.

    heat

it's my opinion killing the motor with the fuel shutoff is hard on the blower. maybe not the roots, but with the tight clearanced screw blowers of today, it builds a lot of heat in the blower which leads to loss of coating on the rotors. not to mention if you have some sort of valve train problem or bearing problem, the last thing you want is that thing leaning out at the worst possible oiling point of the run- the shutdown. Right after the chutes hit, the oil rushes away from the pickup, if anything is left in the pan or tank anyway.

i'm a firm believer in getting on the kill switch right after you hit the chutes. then as it's shutting down, reach over and kill the fuel.

I done this at the last race and it really milked the oil i hit the mag and immediatly pulled the fuel but i guess that split second was enough to let it flood the motor

From just a NE1 car..... i let mine idle until i get off the track. I feel it is better to keep the trans running to move the hot oil back out of the converter.

I haven't had oiling issues in the shutdown, so i never thought about getting it shut off ASAP.

We leave the motor running, but it may make a difference since we're in pulling.
The main reason in my opinion would be to let the exhaust valves cool a bit. EGT's are much lower at idle and the valve cools best when it is seated, even if only momentarily. If you just kill it some of the valves will be open and the risk of them bending seems bigger.

    Just my 2ct's worth
