    A&C rings

Hi ! To my knowledge Akerly & Childs is not a ring manufacturer. They re-pack other rings and brand them their own name. They are quite good with rings. Their main supplier is actually Sealed Power, but they also stock other brands. We have bought rings from Jegs who used to be a Childs & Albert dealer, Summit for Sealed Power/Speed Pro, and also from Total Seal, Arias, and Brendan Murrays www.racecarparts.com. If you know exactly what original product you want Akerly & Childs is not the cheapest way to get hold of it. If you need advice and do not know who really makes your rings Tom Akerly is the man. I just got off the phone from Ray Akerly (he knows of no Tom) at Akerly and Childs. That is Ray Akerly and Rocky Childs. Is this complicated, at least it was for me. I had to take lots of notes so I hope this is correct. Ray didn't hide anything.

First let me say that there are very few companies that have the technology or the manufacturing facility to make CAST rings. The two biggest makers of CAST rings are Perfect Circle and Hastings. These companies do not make CAST rings.......Speed Pro, JE, Total Steel and Akerly and Childs as did Childs and Alberts (in the past) never made CAST rings and just relabel them. In fact here is one for you......Childs and Alberts never made any rings and it bought 100% from other suppliers.

I think what is neat is that by having other companies actually make the CAST rings the suppliers can pick and chose the best product for us racers.

Now STAINLESS STEEL and TOOL STEEL is a different story because that ring is made from a wire roll and the ring manufaturer like Akerly and Childs can take that roll and make their own rings from it right at the plant.

According to Ray the Akerly and Childs HTD rings is the same as the Speed Pro Hellfire ring and is actually made by Perfect Circle and all come out of the same box. The Akerly and Childs plasma moly ring is also made by Perfect Circle the same as Total Seal, JE and SpeedPro.

All the standard 2nd CAST rings we all use come from Perfect Circle. Although Hastings makes CAST rings the manufacturing process used by Perfect Circle makes a denser ring that is better for high performance.

As for PLASMA MOLY rings they are also made 100% by Perfect Circle.

Oil rings are divided into sveral catagories. All LOW TENSION oil rings come from Perfect Circle. All HIGH TENSION oil rings come from Hastings. On STANDARD TENSION oil rings if the bore is 4.25 or larger then they come from Hastings and if they are 4.19 bore or smaller then they come from Perfect Circle.

Ray was very helpfull and he also said that you can buy their rings from Scoggins and Dickey out of Lubbock TX or several other places or directly from Akerly and Childs..
