Regarding Clevite's bearings with their "TriArmor" coatings: I see that these are only available in the H series bearings. Has anyone run them in a blown alcohol combination? I see where pretty much all of the blown motors run M or V series Clevites. The H series is a harder bearing, is it not? Too bad Clevite doesn't sell M or V series with the TriArmor coating.

How many of you all are purchasing M or V series and then sending them out and having them coated?

    Thanks
    Chris

TriArmor bearings will work in a blown application if you are never going to detonate even just a little and you have a low power tuneup. If you crank up the power or detonate a little you will take that first layer of bearing right off and see copper color and it is downhill from there. So when you run the bearings you will have to throw those bearings away. Also with high power you will get stress/fatigue crazing on these bearings. We used them in our 2000 HP nitrous motor and I wish I had known more about the V bearings back then. The V and M bearings are solid babbit bearings on the steel backing so you can wear off a liitle and not change the characteristics of the bearing. Also I do not think the TriArmor bearings can take the oil clearances that one uses with a blower motor on startup or during low oil pressure drops when you cross the finishline. If you have a blower motor then stay with the V & M bearings. If it is a street blown hotrod then you can use the H TriArmor bearings.

    H-bearings

    Hi Mike !
Are these Triarmor H bearings just as bad for Main as for Rod use in a blown Hemi ?

I do not use TriArmor H bearings in any blown application on rods or mains. They are just not forgiving enough.

Thanks for the info Mike. I kinda figured that the TriArmors wouldn't be sufficient, just wanted to confirm.

Have you seen anything wrong with running the regular H bearings? I have run the standard H bearings for years without 1 bearing failure. Granted I only run around 1500 hp (high 6's). Last year I checked bearings every weekend and never had the need to replace one. I also run steel rods. This year we are really upping the motor so we will see what happens.
    Thanks,
    Adam

V series narrowed mains are not available from Clevite, if you need them you either do it your self or call Ackerly & Childs.
