I have a Brad 5 manifold that appears to have been angle milled. With the manifold setting on the motor and you look at it from the end the top of the manifold where it meets the head is at zero and the bottom has a .100 gap. I know there are all kinds of short deck, raised deck combinations now a days. But why would anyone need to angle cut the manifold. Can I recut it where it is even top to bottom. This would mean a .100 gap top to bottom on both sides of the manifold. A gap that I would have to fill up with a gasket (s). Or does it fall in the more trouble than it is worth category?

First thing I would check, is it the manifold? How do you know the heads haven't been wrongly machined? Can you borrow a manifold from someone to try? Is it definitely the correct manifold? Either way, someone has possibly made a mistake when doing the machining, or was given the wrong information prior to machining and now it's too late.

I once had a manifold that had been machined too much and the ports no longer matched (probably why it was for sale!). I spent quite a few hours with a TIG welder building up the mating surfaces and then machining to restore it. It was a lot of work, but it only cost me time. That's a call you'll have to make.

0.100" is quite a gap to build up, and you'll have to go past that to ensure that when it's machined there are no holes in the finished surface.

Let us know what you find.
    Paul.
