I just completed ordering all of the parts needed to ajust my a/fuel car to the rule change 438 to 421. I know, I know... I could have bolted on 90+ lbs. for little or no money.....which I did do .... but the saftey issue and testing lead me to the reduced cubic inch way.

    (3) 3.500 bryant cranks.$2650 ea.= $7950.00
    (30) J&E pistons $86.90ea. = $2607.00
    (30) liners $71.00ea. = $2130.00
    (30) pins $26.80 $804.00
    (30) buttons $5.90ea. $177.00
    (30) rods $97.80 $2934.00
    ring sets (3motors) $984.00
    14 head gasketx$40.40 $686.00

    Total hard costs $18,272.00

not including time ,crew wages, bearings, frt.,or new combination testing.

    lmfao

Also, I heard that global warming will cause the average temperature at NHRA events to be above 85. What will the AFD's do?

Mitch, why do you have to change rods, pins if you change the Crank?

    a 438 uses a 6.800 rod x 4.310 bore and a 3.75 crank a 421 is 3.50 crank x 4.375 bore with 6.930 rod.

MITCH- SYMPATHY ON THE INTERNET (sorry about caps!)is non existant unless it involves death or coma- That said - I appreciate you sharing the list of hard parts as it was an item for discussion today at lunch as to what changes would be required for a 421 cu in national event contending combo- even though I drive a BAD and possibly t/f next season- I wish you a safe 2004 on and off the track!

Thanks Mitch, I guess I thought that Most Hemi's had the same Bore. And that most teams just changed the Crank for displacement purposes.

Mitch, how is it that a TF dragster can stop at 330 mhp but you don't seem to think you can?

    Will LOL....

I don't think it was above 85 in Pomona.

    Mitch,
I feel for you. However, the choice is up to you. I would probably think about it if I could afford it. For everyone critizing Mitch for his "whining"............ get a grip. I admire Mitch for his efforts. SOLID.

Larry M., Great job at Pomona, first 5.30 right. You need a trans brake buddy, you are always to close to that red light :D :D ;)

Hey Larry, I met your Dad(I think!) and another one of your crew at the Indy speedway museum during the Monsoon at Indy! I guess you were somewhere else! BTW, what size motor do you run?

    Speedzone,
Don't need a trans brake. Just need a little more weight on the front to keep from yanking the wheels out of the beams. A .012 avg. ain't so bad.

    Mr. Scary,
Yeah, you probably met my dad and crew at the museum. That was a crazy storm! My dad is a great guy. I'm lucky to race with him. My crew is great as well. The motor we run is a 432. No compalints. We'll just deal with it. I'd probably complain if I could to afford to change.

Anyone else think that the "SOLID" deal is the dumbest thing going right now?

several of the top teams already run the 421 - lucas, bradshaw, bartone. it was popular not only for the weight, but also the rod/stroke ratio evidently works well for a nitro motor. the results sure seem to say so.

could be much like when the blown cars were still on weight per cid. towards the end of that, it was found a 451 motor made more power than a 475, and you could drop a ton of weight off the car to boot. santos/obannon/grimes furthered that concept with the 433 motor and super light car.

even now with the 2025 minimum weight, you have conflicting theories of whether or not the 451 is a better motor than the 463. some argue cubic inches, while the other argument is you are just making a bigger hole to put the air in and the extra ci causes frictional losses. big bore or big stroke? santos ran 4.460 bore. shields ran 4.310.

    just some observations

How many TF cars do you see run at some of the Divisional races. I bet it would be hard for them to stop at Edgewater Sports Park or Beech Bend Raceway Park. That is what there talking about not the Nationals events
