Mike, I don't believe that a 4-8 gallon is anywhere big enough for a 1/4 mile. We use a 10 gal and most other ProMod also use 10-12 gal. Tim McAmis sells the 10 gal we use. The worst thing that can happen is to run out of fuel in a run. It will wipe out all your pistons. When you figure the burnout, the backup and the stage and the run that works out to be a lot of alcohol. You could start up and then shut back down because of a oil down or the other guy has problems and you waste alcohol. You use three times the amount of alcohol that you do with gas because of the different AFRs. Gas is 12.8:1 and alcohol is around 4.8:1 AFR. If it was me then it would be no less than 10 gallons.

Here are the specs for the McAmis fuel cell we use.

We have a safe amount of fuel at the end of a run. One thing you can do is use fuel as ballast weight on the front of the car. If you make the tank big enough then you can fill it up all the way if you need more weight on the front or put a little less if you don't. How much boost did you make with your previous Roots motor? A PSI D rotor if things are right can make 60+ lbs of boost. If you are set up for 60 lbs of boost you are going to need to pump 18+ GPM just for the run at sea level. Better to have too much than too little for fuel.

with a 1100hp small chevy, including the burnout, waiting, staging, and making the run, i used right about 3 gallons for the average burnout. When i was 'having fun' on the burnout, i would use over 4.

I believe our tank in our TAFC will hold 9 or 10 gallons. On average we'll come back after a run and put a jug and a bit back in it, so I'd say its around 6 - 6 1/2 gallons in a run, probably more like 7 if anything out of the ordinary happens on the starting line.

    Mike,
You seen our car many times on the starting line. our tank is 10 gal
Look at the some of our vids. Wait till you will have to line up next to a turbo that take forever to stage. You will be scraping bottom.
    Good luck

I agree completly with what Mike said,

I helped a friend with his R.E.D. last year it holds about 6.5 plus line volume, we had a delay at the line and I still got a pain in my stomach from watching the run waiting for the candles to change color :eek:
