have read on here about fixing spark plug threads. it was recommended to fix them with aluminum thread inserts, but mine already had steel inserts. how much would this effect spark plug readings? thanks jeremy

It doesn't make any difference on an alcohol motor because you are not reading a fuel ring on the porcelein like with gasoline. Don't worry about it. We have inserts in our motor also.

Mike, my experience is that any holes with steel inserts tend to read lean (all the cad is burned off prematurely), even though they aren't. My guess is that the inserted plug holes read close to 1/2 gallon leaner than normal.

Thats interesting Ken, I have never seen that happen. I have had a mixture of holes with inserts and without and also with all holes with inserts. If it does then at least that is on the safe side.

    threads

Same here Ken on our Veney heads. Had holes repaired with billet inserts, now they all look pretty much the same. The plugs were really burned with the steel ones in there.

Yeah, I actually removed some steel inserts from some Veney heads a couple days ago, and replaced them with aluminum inserts. Should be as good as new.
