How about a new rule in the Sportsman class that says if you and your equipment leave an event before an official cancellation of the event due to inclement weather, you automatically forfeit your position and will not be allowed to compete on the makeup date.
Had a couple of crews flip a coin and leave on Sunday night at Bowling Green this past weekend. Would not have been able to make the call to the lanes on Monday IF the race would have ran. Those that stayed where ready to race and should be able to run the make up but what of those that left? Don't think it's fair to leave and then show at Columbus like nothing happened.
    What do you all think?

This situation does not occur often but my feelings are that if you leave and you are quaiified to run then if the race is cancelled and you wish to claim your spot at a future runoff you should be able to do so. If the race is not cancelled but continues to race then you loose. What is NHRA going to do. Run around with a check list of the cars still there when they cancel? In these cases many people have already loaded up and may have moved from the area they were pitted. Just my openion.

I agree, if you are already qualified in an event and you think it's gonna rain out and you wanna leave, go for it!! You are taking the risk that if it still goes youre not there but if it does get postponed you should still have your spot. What does NHRA expect you to do, sit back and wait for them to arrange all their postponement travel plans first then tell everyone else its rained out. If the round youre in doesnt start, your spot should be saved in my opinion. People have other responsibilities in life to take care of also, NHRA shouldnt force you to wait for their call. Youre the one taking the risk, if it doesnt get postponed, you blew it!!!!!

OK, people have other obligations, I understand that. But if you leave early because of those obligations, you forfit your spot in the round, where ever the round gets called. I think it is an intent issue, I intend to race this round and I am here to do it. I will continue to stay until I am told it's not going to happen.
As far as keeping track of who is here and who is not, It's announced on the PA system and every race track I have ever been too has a gate out of the pits. State your class and number to the man (person) in the shack on the way out. If your not on the list, you don't race in the make up. To save time later, the ladders can get rearrainged so we don't have a bunch of bye runs.

It appears that for what ever reason you have a problem with the current rule. Checking everyone out at the exit gate will never happen. There are times when common sense tells you to leave. NHRA might set around for hours making the deccession to cancel. Like the previous post. Make the wrong call and leave and you lose your spot. There are a number of things in drag racing that some would not think fair and you are intitled to your openion. Just don't think it would be a concensious. But NHRA is not a democratic org.
