Hello , I just felt like letting you guys in AMERICA know what drag racing is like down here in little old New Zealand , Our top class down here is Top Alcohol but its not like the top alcohol you guys have the rules arent as strict and if you know how to read the rulebook you can legally run some pretty combinations , in fact its more like what pro comp was for you guys in the old days because here in NZ all the top alcohol funny cars , dragsters , and altereds all run together in one class . We also have a class called top doorslammer which is what you guys call pro modified .

We also have many other classes and generally a place where anybody can race .

This website which was started by somebody I don't know who gives you a good idea of what dragracing is like here .

Yeah drag racing is slowly going places here in new zealand , we have couple of alcohol cars that are in the 5's an ex USA Alchy funny car that can run 5.80's and a dragster that ran a high 5.90 about a month ago . Most of the rest of the acohol field runs in the low 6.00's all the way to around 6.80's .

Though in saying that that doesnt make the racing in any way one sided because you never know what will happen and not everyone runs at every event . Its still very much a hobby sport here though , nobody gets paid anything . Most of the racers either have some sponsors or run out of there own pocket and there are those that don't have the biggest budgets but find a way to race anyway . I wouldnt be surpised if some of the alchy cars have smaller budgets then some of the street cars do here lol.

I am only a spectater and finally managed to go and watch a big meet about a week ago and it was great . Its funny when looking at the pits here in new zealand compared to the USA there are no motorhomes here only pickups and trailers and the racers either sleep in tents at the track or get a motel room .

In the 6's...sounds like my kinda racin'. It's pretty much a hobby here as well, the money paid back doesn't cover a lot but it's better than nothing. I'll do as long as I can scrape up the money and have some good helpers and I do have some great guys helping...that's half the fun. Anyway good to hear about New Zealand racing.

33; the "A" in ANDRA is Australia, not New Zealand.

Go to dragster.com.au to ask for pics.

Saw this and wanted to comment on this... Drag racing in New Zealand is great.... I lived there for a year and loved going to the drag strip just south or north of PukeKohe.. Was lots of fun... Kind of made me miss home though cause my Super Comp/Super E car was at home... Love New Zealand though... Great Country Beautiful and would love to come back someday...
