    when you add the step retards i know the timing will multiply but will the sec. example first step 4deg ramp 2 seconds second step 2 deg over 2 seconds total of 6deg does the seconds multiply also. any input much appreciated thank you Jerry Hunt if you wish to call please call 314 568-2633

    You shouldn't use the term "multiple" just to keep things straight. They "add" the retards together but not the ramp time. So in your example if both retards were triggered at the same time it would be 6* in 2 seconds.

    mike canter Question....

    another 8973 question.....

    when the retard function is used, how much is allowable before the rotor phasing becomes a problem ???

    eg
    msd 10 ignition , coupled to 8973 , locked distrubitor , .......

    say 28 deg timing...... how much retardd , before rotor phasing in dizzy becomes a problem / misfire / no fire/./.....

    With a "fat tip" rotor, not pointed. Set the leading edge to just arrive at the distributor terminal at your base timing, then continue to turn the engine until the trailing edge reaches the other side of terminal. This would be the max retard without any compromises.
