I'd seen a post a while back where someone was talking about using their accumulator to pre-lube the motor before starting. I was just curious how this procedure was done. We run a KB526 fuel headed hemi, blown alky, and was looking at putting an accumulator on since it's a wet sump deal. Not sure on the oil capacity of the pan, motor is new to us. Just was wondering what the do's and dont's of oil accumulators. Thanks guys...

Boy I'd love to know also.
Our stuff is wetsump and last year I scuffed up some T&D roller tips, supposedly because of the lack of oil upon startup.
I also wondered if an accumalator would help me. Just someway to prime the motor.
    What have you done?

Put 1/2 ball valve to the inlet/outlet hose on the accumulator connected to the cockpit with a remote cable , before shutting down the motor , close the valve , that hold the full oil presure in the accumulator , later before starting the motor open the valve and let the pressure goes to the oiling system . You can also use an electric activated valve who is close when the switch is ''off''. then to pressure stay in the accumulator even the master switch is turned OFF .

You could also fit an electric (moroso) solenoid with a switch in your cockpit. The accumulator is easy to service too as an o'ring kit is like $10-15 plus freight.

Hook it up as close to main feed into engine as possible or even plumb it into the block.

Install sunny side up, this way if set off and engine wont fire then its easy to fill with new oil by removing the c clip & pop off the end.

Its easy to drain the surplus oil out of your engine if you wish, personally I dont bother during the course of a day.

    BLEED THE AIR OUT FIRST.

Attach the air guage to 2 to 3ft of -6 hose, cable tied to wing or chassis upright.

The best priming unit ever, as its already on your car.

Thanks for the info guys! The Moroso 3 quart accumulator is huge! Where would you mount it? Also was curious as far as the Moroso accumulators...what's the main difference between the 23900 vs Heavy Duty 23902 accumulators? I'm assuming it's thicker and can withstand vibration better?

On my dragster I mounted it over the trans. behind the midplate, across the frame rails. I don't use any kind of valve on it either, I just put in 13 qts in my bbc new century and let it push it in the accumlator on startup. However if you want to pre-lube just stick a valve on it like the other guy's have said. Keeping it close to the rear of the motor keeps the lines short.

i have mounted mine beside trans with 2 aircraft style hose clips, the type you use a socket on (gave them a wee tweek to get just right)
undo them and slip around chassis and accumulator,

its mounted on the diagonal bar on the inside of the chassis, outlet end facing up and towards the engine.

to remove just disconnect the electric wire, loosen hose clip bolts and slip out. leave the clips still around chassis.

tyre doesnt rub on them as you just adjust to suit & put the attachment end of clips away from chassis.

make sure though that the clip is around where the end caps sit in on the ends of the accumulator.

I forgot to mention we're running a door car. Any reason we can't mount the accumulator inside the car? ie-like along the double frame rail?
