WD-40 and scoth bright pad is all i have ever used on mine then wipe it down with a dry cloth and when you put it up over the winter just spray it down real good and leave it

Ive built a BUNCH of car and tried EVERYTHING and what we have had the best results with is Marvrel Mystery Oil. Not as sticky as WD40. If you have new pipe and havn't scuffed it yet, DON"T! Leave the protective mill scale (coating) on it and just wipe with the Marvel. The new chassis we built last year went all season with NO rust! I'm sure you will hear 10 other ideas too:rolleyes:

Scotchbright and WD40 here too. Works great. NO rust at all.

Ive used WD-40 and ATF on the chassis...The ATF seems to work pretty well and keeps the chassis protected better than WD too.

ATF works better, lasts longer than WD40.

    scotchbrite

once you've hit the chassis with scotchbrite, you're pretty much married to it. like tim said, if you still have the coating on it, that's the best bet with just one of the oils mentioned above. steve harker has a 99 chassis with the coating still on it, looks like new despite racing here in tx where we have mega humidity.

    Gibbs

    One more time.....
    WD40- useless
ATF - will finally soak in and was all I used to use.
Gibbs - remember, I'm kind of new at this, have not quite made it 50 years working with 4130 (only 47), but cranky old Pat Foster (RIP) got me to try Gibbs two years ago.
I'll never use anything else. Just got my third case from:
    BHG Dist./ Billy

I could care less if you used my name, "I just like to walk down the hill." (old bull)

    Just a thought..
a good compromise I've seen is clearcoating the frame with polyurethane after you get "where you want it" with scuffing. I'm thinking of doing mine, I'm already tired of chasing rust everywhere someone touches the frame, not to mention the dirt magnet that the oil becomes.
Not sure what clear with no primer weighs, but the guys I've talked to that have done it say it stays on and works great.
Wonder what a coat of rust preventative oil and dirt weighs anyway??
