ok, not starting any rumors or insider secrets, but taking a poll on the future specs for alchohol funny car specs. are they going to be the same as nitro soon, say 5 years, or is there any reasurrance anyone can have building a new car soon that all these chassis will be illegal any time soon. the alchohol cars and nostalgia nitro seem to be safe right now, but some builders ive talked to seem to think building a alchohol car to the nitro specs would be a smart idea, even though about 40 lbs heavier.my car is legal now,but getting old and thinking about a complete update soon. what do you guys think? keep in mind i dont have a million dollar budget to fix this if it goes the wrong way. thanks.

now i have never driven a car, but i have worked on them and i would say they are safe the way they are. because they are pretty much the same chassies as the fuel cars were a few years ago, and the funnycars back then were going 300+ and the TAFC's arent there yet. i dont think they should have to change there spec, now lets say they start going 270 them maybe they need to think of ways to change the cars, but as of right now and the near future i dont think they need to make any changes

There are plenty of people running chassis that are 15+ years old and are completely safe. These chassis, built by Steve Plueger, Dave Uyehara and Kenny Mooers haven't seen so much as a weld crack, let alone have any major issues. Once in a while we see a wreck like the one Jason Rupert had and they continue to save lives.

The issue with the Nitro FC's wasn't design, it was the use of heat treated tubing. Anyone with an ounce of brains knew the use of it was a recipe for disaster.

Except for one chassis builder, the rest agree that the spec required in TA/FC, which is still based on the old FC spec is still good enough for FC. The new spec for FC is just a knee jerk reaction and certainly not necessary for TA/FC or NFC.

If your a porker (aka FAT ) then NO, if your not then NO, although the chassis builders might disagree. :D:)

    fc chassis

yes, my car is an older casarez chassis, if that dates it for you, built around 1984, finished 10th in nitro fc in 1986, and got the crap beat out of it since! hasnt had anything except for a front end due to a sanoma catch net, but not one weld has cracked yet. casarez was known for building tough cars and this one has heavier tubing in the rear diff uprights. now heres the catch, when sonic tested for the pro tag recently, they almost failed it because of the thicker tubing (moly) . after 2 hrs on the phone the rep finally tagged it, because i was about to tag him! it was a rude introduction to the by the spec and only by the spec mentallity of nhra, even though i had kept all the tag cert paperwork up to that point. scary crap:

I was the third owner (1976-79) of Tony Casarez's first FC (built in 1973 for Mike Burkhart). It too was a rugged, well built chassis. He later built several Blue Max cars in the mid 1970s.

Thanks for the great comment regarding my dad Tony Casarez. The chassis’s he built were really geared more to driver safety at the time.
