I have a friend that has a 540 short deck bbc bow tie block. it is one of the original ones over 15 years old and has always had a blow by problems. It restrictors ring gap fine leaks ok, cyl wall clearance ok valve guides ok no signs of detonation. I think the block is tweaking egging the bores 1471 hh retro 25 over 9000 rpm what do you think ? thanks Craig:confused:

Does the motor have a windage ? I had that problem and a stud mounted tray fixed it. Chuck

We used to run HH 14's at 45% over on Mark IV blocks.
Not to mention we knew nothing about fuel systems:eek::eek:

We would fill the blocks to the decks.
We'd detonate head gaskets and bearings out on a regular basis.

The only time we had blow by was when we would crack a cylinder wall. They would start to crack in the block's deck right by one of the bottom row stud holes, then proceed into the cylinder wall.

We wouldn't turn them past 7500 RPM. We had restrictors and we used stock 12 qt truck pans.

    Hope this helps!
