Hi guys, building a 400 sbc with splayedvalve heads and a whipple r980 and e85. 4.125 bore and 3.75 stroke, oliver steel rods (will se some street use), expecting 13-1500hp and would like to turn it to 8000, 7:1 comp 25-30 psi boost. what do you think aboat the redline rpm-stroke-steelrod combo? dont have to worry so much aboat the tuneup, using efi with 02 sensors.
    thanks /Linus

With 30 psi boost and 8K rpm's I'd still put an aluminum rod in it. Preferrably a MGP rod.

    Blessings.........Ron.

You may have issues with the whipple on the street. They will make boost at idle, which will generate heat. A friend of mine had whipples on his boat and wound up building a bypass that was open at idle and when you hit the throttle, it would close the bypass

thanks for the replys. i ran it all summer on the street but not over 20 psi (20-30% ud) with plenty of vacuum in the intake at idle. im sure its different with more boost.

20-30 under and it made 20 lbs of boost? wow those things are more efficient than i thought. Mine makes boost at idle, but it's 60 over.

yes i was surprised to, i first ran it 18 under with 21-22psi wich was to much with 9:1 comp and e85 so i tried 30 under and got 15psi witch was a better street setup. the problem was that the fuel turned in to liquid form when it passed the blower so my hoses to the mapsensor and powerbrakes was filled with fuel and #8 and #7 plug died sometimes and the o2 reading was very inconstant. at idle it travelled between 10 and 16 afr. i had all fuel above the blower so this winter the fuel rails going down to the intake and 2big injectors stays in the hat for cooling. Danny, how do you divide the fuel between the hat and the intake? ive been told 30% in the hat is good.
