Pray for Hannes Wernhart

My understand is that Hannes needs some help from above not knowing the whole story only that he sustained injuries due to a fire and that his car burned to the ground and the field next to the track caught on fire.

 

We were just about to the time slip booth when Hannes went by the finish line. It was totally engulfed in flames with flames boiling out of the front fender wells on both sides, out the blower opening, header openings, and also inside the cab of the car. I have only seen a couple fires even close to the intensity of Hannes in my 35+ years of racing. I was concerned for his safety. He went off the track and lit the brush on fire which spread very quickly. The car burned to the ground in the brush fire and I understand it burned so bad that even the valve covers were consumed.

I just got this from one of the drag boat sites, As you may or may not know Hannes was a boat racer before moving to the funny car:

"From what i've heard, Hannes is in pretty bad shape. They have put him into an induced coma. He is a very close friend and our thoughts and prayers are with him, his wife and his young kids. May GOD look over you and pull you through this."

I just got off the phone with one of Hannes's crew guy's - He is OK and should be leaving the hospital in a couple of days,keep your thoughts and prayers coming!! as no one wants to have this happen to them or their driver.

 

That's Great news! Hope to see Hannes in a FC again!

 

I'm very glad to hear that he'll be getting out of the hospital soon, the reports are a little conflicting..But knowing from personal experience what he, his crew and family are going through right now; it's going to take some time to recuperate..I wish them a speedy return...and don't give up...don't even think about that part of it now...just get healed and we'll see you when you come back.

 

i was at the hospital yesturday morning spoke with his wife he going to be fine second degree burns on knees and arms he has a tube in his throat because of swelling due to the heat and smoke it should come out today he is heavy medicated not a coma going to see him tonight will let you know more later

 

Hello to all fellow racers and friends concerned about Hannes Wernhart. We appreciate all the calls and prayers on his behalf.
Hannes is ok. He suffered second degree burns on his right hand from the fingertips to the shoulder and on his left hand from fingertips to his elbow. He also has second degree burns on both his knees.
Hannes is not in a coma, he has been heavily medicated because he currently has a breathing tube to assist him while there is swelling in his throat area due to inhaling heat. If not for the swelling in his throat he would be alert and awake.
The doctors feel he will heal fine with minimal or no scarring. Hannes will be released from the hospital as soon as the swelling has subsided in his throat and they can remove the breathing tube. As of today, we have no specefic release date for him.
Again, his family and Team thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers and we will keep you posted on his recovery.

That is GREAT NEWS I have taken your update and posted it in dragboatracing.com all in the drag boat family are praying for hannes as well

 

The Lewis racing team and mike boyce all hope to see hannes soon and hopes the best.

Hannes is doing much better. The breathing tube is out and he is alert and awake. His release date is yet to be determined but his spirits are good.
