What you say is correct. Cleaners with chloride/chlorine compounds can get into small surace imperfections and machining marks, and can actually promote the onset of surface based fatigue cracking (which Ti likes to do anyways). In the aviation industry for example, there are very clear guidlines for washing Ti parts. Supposedly years ago Cosworth was having a rash of Ti component failures which were all eventually linked back to contaminated wash solvent. The same consideration does not apply if the Ti part is surface or deposition coated by some other means.

i'm too poor to run ti parts.... but i use lacquer thinner in a spray/squirt bottle instead of brake cleaner

    lacquer thinner vs brake cleaner?
-cutting heaviest of oil, grease and grime- lacquer thinner = brake cleaner
-leaves no residue or oily film- lacquer thinner = brake cleaner
-smells pretty (haha)- lacquer thinner = brake cleaner
    -price-$10/gal @ wal-mart vs $2-3/can @ most places- lacquer thinner > brake cleaner

may not solve the ti parts problem... just thought i'd throw this out there. and since it's not in a can that is half full of propellant... it seems to last a helluva lot longer that brake cleaner too

You guys are worried about spraying break cleaner on your valves, I'd bet you guys would blow her up before that even becomes a factor. :p
