    bubble balancer source

We purchased a bubble balancer from Northern Tool. A compact aluminum unit that was inexpensive. We bubble balance our tires at the beginning of every race. We just add a little weight here or there as needed. Seems to work fine.

    bubble

take them somewhere and get them spin balanced on the inner & outer, then thank me. more expensive and a pain in the ass, but much better way of balancing. a tire out of balance can throw the car into tireshake when it's not the tuneup's fault...

    Spin Balance.

    Will,

What do you mean by spin blancing the Inner and Outer. At each race I have Hoosier Spin Balance my tires, is that considered Inner and Outer?

    Thanks

    spin vs bubble balance

    gary,

first off, i don't know that hoosier spin balances at the track unless your d1 hoosier guy has one he brings to the track. most of the tire guys bubble balance the wheels. i just mean to set the spin balancer to put weight on the inside and outside of the wheel, not just inside. It also helps if you tell them to put duct tape UNDERNEATH the stick on weights that way it's not such a mess cleaning the wheel up when you take the weights off.

    Gary,
What Will is referring to is called 2 plane balancing. Same principles as your crankshaft. Once you get past about 6 inches wide one side affects the other. This is compounded by the fact that most rims are not centered.

    Spin Balance

When they spin balance our rims, they only put weight on the inside not on both. THat is how it has been done to date.

D1 at the divisional they bring a spin balance machine at the D1 National Events it is a bubble balancer.

    Gary.

    Thanks

Thank You all for the feedback, we unfortunately don't run at races that have any type of support so we were looking to get a balancer to take with us to where if we needed to put our spare set on at the track we could get close.

Like Will said, the machines can be set to balance just one side or the inner and outer. I have a friend who takes the big plastic hood off of his machine so he can balance my slicks. The hood has a magnet that closes a safety switch circuit. He sticks a big magnet in it's place so the machine will then operate with it's hood missing.
