Any thoughts on minimum clearance between the bottom of the piston/wrist pin boss and the counterweight?

I have a new crank and just happened to notice how close they are. Seems to be a bit too close for my liking :(

    Thanks in advance.

P.S. Our thoughts are with the Kalittas in these sad times.

You can put 'em as tight as you like. About .080 will do at idle. When you're at 10,300 it'll grow out to about .170 with aluminum rods. Steel will only grow about ..012 to .016, but they won't go 10,300. Paint on some thick red filler primer on the cheek; if it ghosts, you're too close.

Thanks for that Bob, just one more (I hope),

Since I haven't had the rotating assembly balanced yet, is it feasible to remove some material off the bottom of the counterweight to gain more clearance, before balancing?

    Thanks again.
