What thoughts do you folks have in regards to the different ring & pinion manufacturers? I'm going to purchase a Chrisman billet third member with 9 1/2 gears. The car is an outlaw Pro Mod with hemi and screw blower weighing approximately 2600 lbs. My concern is that the U.S./Strange gears in a 9 1/2 configuration that are 4:57 in ratio are not available. The Richmond gears are available in the 9 1/2 and 4:57. Is there quite a difference in these two manufacturers or is it a marginal difference? Thank you in advance!

Thank you, I will call and talk to Steve. I suppose I was looking for a couple of opinions based on experience in regards to the life of the ring and pinion gears.

    Bluntly, it's up to you.........
example: "I've got 200 runs on this one, of course I've never shook the tires"
    VS.
"I've got the same brand he's got and I only get 3 runs out of it, I'll never qualify if this keeps up, had to fix this P.O.S. chassis again and I think I'm going to switch clutch and transmission manufacturers because none of this s#*t likes my sweet sounding 10.5 gpm perfect tune up!!"

Disclaimer: remember, I'm just a welder!

    motive gear?

Glad to hear that about motive. I've been packing a set of them around in my trailer for a year. Still using up the last two sets of US Strange gears which in my opinion have been the best. had lousy luck with richmond every time I tried them (even when it wasn't shaking and breaking Bob) The US gears seem to last around 60 runs with the average spread of good ones vs. shakers. I am installing the Motives before the next race. I hope you are right about them as cannot find the 9.5 US Gears any more. If anyone knows where you can get any of them (maybe old stock) I would be interested.
