Is anyone currently using this setup successfully? I have heard a lot of horror stories about the 8971 & 8973 pro-mag controllers with timing inconsistiencies causing lots of damage. i am planning on using the 7531 to control the spark with the mag 44 and want to make sure that these are not causing the same problems. Any input would be helpful. Danny Humphreys 214-724-1056n Thanks!!!!

We ran the 7531 for 3 passes, and it caused some weird stuttering/delayed response.
The car would leave the line, and the entire way through low gear, the car was a complete slug, and stuttered and was lazy. But as soon as it was bumped into 2nd, it cleaned up instantly and trucked.
It also had a blue, hazy flame too at the hit.

We run the 8973, and had previously for 2 years. I think the 8973 is the way to go. If you have any other questions, give me a shout.

Danny, those stories that you hear about the 8973 are just that, stories Everytime I have had somebody get in touch with me on suspected problems with the 8973 it has always proven to be some other fault and not the 8973. The only thing that might lend credence to one problem was the use of a non shielded crank trigger cable that may have caused random firing of the ignition due to Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). This problem has been around on analog and digital MSD ignition systems for a few years and has been rectified by using a MSD shielded crank trigger cable which has the shielding grounded to the chassis or a Leahy shielded crank trigger. We use the 8973 on our ProMod and use one on a TAFC and have never had a problem. I would recommend using the 8973. As a note here, the 7531 would have the same EMI problem with an no shielded crank trigger cable if used.

No problems here, I have been using it for 3 years. Makes for easy programing thru computer. The only thing I can recomend is to get also the msd tester , that way you can simulate the engine running thru the gears and calibrate your unit because it is easy to have a lot of retards and timming (leave retard, boost and gear retarders ). PM me if you need any more info.

    Hope this helps!

I'm usinig the 7531 with no problems. I think mike is right about the crank trigger wires. You also have to be careful about keeping the wires away from other wires. I learned alot about running wires trying to run a supermag with a data logger.:)
